MIAMI: Popland is a new teen telenovela format in the works from MTV Latin America, following the success of Niñas Mal

Popland marks the first scripted series 100 percent produced by MTV Latin America. The network has commissioned 75 one-hour episodes and is slating a pan-regional premiere for the fourth quarter. The property will be distributed by MTV Networks International Program Sales. The series will tell the story of one girl’s journey from humble small-town life to the star-studded big city world of celebrities, parties and even love.

“After the incredible success of Niñas Mal, we are extremely excited to begin development for Popland, our new and fully self-produced telenovela,” said Fernando Gaston, the senior VP of creative and content for MTV/VH1 Latin America. “With this production we hope to further demonstrate our unique take on this genre with characters our audience is sure to connect with.”

“We are very happy to add Popland to our roster of offerings,” commented Adeline Delgado, the VP of international program sales at MTV Networks International. “We are pleased to add a telenovela to our programming slate, and with it offer a Latin American production to broadcasters around the world.”

Popland is a true testament to how far MTV Networks Latin America has come as a content producer,” said JC Acosta, the senior VP, CFO and executive in charge of production. “Not only are we producing our second telenovela independently, but we are fortunate to keep this project within the MTV Networks family with distribution through IPS.”
