CANNES: Scrawl Studios and the Media Development Authority of Singapore (MDA) are collaborating with international producers to co-produce up to five animated titles with a total production value of S$19 million ($13.5 million).

The first two projects are Almost Extinct, an original 3-D animated series created by Scrawl Studios and co-produced with Canada’s CCI Entertainment in association with Taiwan’s Coolframes Digiworks, and Hunter the Wereboy, another original 2-D animated series co-produced by Scrawl and France’s Planet Nemo Animation. MDA will be a co-investor in the two projects.

Dr Christopher Chia, the CEO of the Media Development Authority, said, "Having established a household name for itself in the animation space with its earlier successes, including Nanoboy, Milly Molly and, recently, Silly Bitty Bunny, Scrawl Studios is a shining example of a company that is creating compelling animation content for the global market, and MDA is pleased to support these co-productions which underpin our internationalization strategy to produce with the world, for the world."

Seng Choon Meng, the CEO of Scrawl Studios, added, "The collaboration with the Media Development Authority is a highly strategic one for Scrawl Studios, allowing us to significantly accelerate several co-productions in original animation content, and at the same time develop high-value production capabilities to engage with major international partners and broadcasters, including in North America, Europe, as well as Asia and in particular, China. We are extremely excited to build on the partnership with the MDA to foster a thriving animation ecosystem in Singapore and to produce the next wave of unique content created for a global audience."
