MDA Gears Up for American Film Market Appearance

SINGAPORE, October 30: The Media Development Authority of
Singapore will be attending the American Film Market in Santa Monica next month
with a view to promoting the benefits of filming and producing in the island
nation.

The MDA will be participating in the Location Expo Seminar
to speak about its incentives and schemes to assist international filmmakers
and broadcasters in using Singapore as a location for their productions. The
MDA is positioning itself as a one-stop information centre for local and foreign
filmmakers who wish to shoot their films in Singapore, suggesting suitable
locations and serving as a liaison between the filmmakers and relevant
government agencies.

Filmmakers and broadcasters can also apply for the Film in
Singapore! Scheme administered by the Singapore Tourism Board.

Michelle Lui, the senior assistant director of industry
development at the MDA, commented, “Singapore’s east-meets-west sensibilities
rooted in our strong bilingual education enable us to better understand and
access key target markets overseas. Hence, apart from participating in Asian
film markets, it is also important for us to reach out to the U.S. market and
position ourselves as the gateway to the east for Hollywood. “

The Singapore Film Commission (SFC) will also be at the
American Film Market to promote Made-by-Singapore films.
