Loss Widens at Crown Media

STUDIO CITY, November 9: Hallmark Channel U.S.’s parent
company, Crown Media Holdings, saw its net loss for the third quarter increase
from $65.8 million to $84.3 million, on revenues of $47.3 million, a 7-percent
drop on last year’s results.

Advertising revenues for the quarter totaled $40.2 million,
an increase of 20 percent, and subscriber fee revenues increased 32 percent to
$6 million. Film asset licensing fees, however, more than halved from $2.1
million to $989,000. And sublicense fees and other revenues dropped from last
year’s $10.4 million—including gains from the licensing of Little
House on the Prairie
—to $76,000.
Subscribers were up 8 percent to 74.7 million.
