Lionsgate has acquired the international distribution rights for the new A24 comedy series Ramy.

Ramy, which debuted in the U.S. on the Hulu streaming platform, has already been picked up for a second season. The series tells the story of the spiritual journey of a 20-something, first-generation Egyptian-American in his politically-divided New Jersey neighborhood. Co-creator Ramy Youssef stars in the show alongside Amr Waked, Hiam Abbass and May Calamawy. Lionsgate is set to showcase Ramy to international buyers during its LA Screenings presentation on May 19.

Lionsgate’s president of worldwide television and digital distribution, Jim Packer, said: “When I watched Ramy for the first time, I knew this is a show that has the potential to break through because I couldn’t stop watching. I have the utmost respect for our partners at A24 and am thrilled to expand our longstanding distribution partnership by bringing Ramy to audiences around the world.”
