Laurence Rees to Be Honored at History Makers

TORONTO, January 8: The
History Makers Board will present its Lifetime Achievement Award to the BBC's
Laurence Rees at this year's History Makers International Summit, which takes
place this month in New York City.

Rees, the creative
director of history programs for the BBC, is a documentary filmmaker and
author. Until recently, he was the editor of the BBC's historical documentary
strand Timewatch, and is known
for the BAFTA- and Banff World Television Festival Award-winning Nazis: A
Warning from History
and Auschwitz:
The Nazis and The Final Solution
,
which won the History Book of the Year Award in 2006. His most recent series is
World War II: Behind Closed Doors.

"Laurence is a man of
great intelligence and accomplishment," said Bill Nemtin, the executive
director of the History Makers Summit. "He has been a leader at the BBC in
developing history programs and has set a high standard for the rest of the
world's broadcasters. This award recognizes excellence, and Laurence continues
in that tradition."

History Makers will take
place in New York City from January 29 to 31 at the Marriott Downtown.
