Kazakhstan Deal for BBC Worldwide

LONDON/BUDAPEST, June 19:
BBC Worldwide announced in Budapest today a 180-hour content deal with the
Kazakhstan broadcaster Kahbar Agency covering a range of genres.

“We haven’t done something
there in a couple of years,” Christine Muller, the territory manager for
Eastern European TV sales at BBC Worldwide, tells World Screen Newsflash. “This is the biggest we’ve done in terms of
business if you look back at some of the previous deals. It signals that all
those ex-Soviet states are emerging in their own right.”

The deal includes series
like Animalia, Robin Hood and The Other Boleyn Girl, among others. It follows a volume deal announced
earlier in the week with Croatia.

BBC Worldwide is bullish
on its continued prospects in the region. Muller notes the company’s business
in Central and Eastern Europe has doubled over the last two years.
