Judge Denies SAG/AMPTP Talks Injunction

LOS ANGELES: A Los Angeles court has rejected an initial attempt by SAG’s president, Alan Rosenberg, to block the resumption of negotiations with the AMPTP.

The court ruled that the application for the injunction was "procedurally defective," according to a statement from the actors union. Rosenberg is seeking to block planned talks with the AMPTP while he works to reinstate canned chief negotiator Doug Allen, who the SAG national board accused of mishandling negotiations with the Hollywood producers. The plaintiffs intend to refile the injunction request tomorrow.

Talks were slated to resume this week, seven months after the previous contract expired. Rosenberg and Allen had been actively lobbying for a strike authorization vote, but faced stiff resistance in light of fears of the impact a work stoppage would have on an already struggling economy.
