International Emmys for News and Current Affairs Announced

NEW YORK, September 23:
The International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announced the 2008
International Emmy Award winners for the News and Current Affairs categories.

Romania’s Pro-TV News
report, Any Idea of What Your Kid is Doing Right Now? about
abandoned children made history by winning the first News Emmy ever for Romania
and for Eastern Europe.

Dutch crime reporter Peter
R. de Vries investigated the disappearance and possible murder of American
tourist Natalee Holloway in Aruba. His undercover camera report about the case,
produced by SBS Broadcasting B.V/Endemol Entertainment, won in the Current
Affairs category.

The International Emmys
were presented by Bruce Paisner, the president and CEO of The International Academy of Television
Arts & Sciences in New York City last night.

“We continue to marvel at
the spread of news capabilities and excellence in television reporting in an
increasing number of countries,” said Paisner. “Tonight’s winners will cause
even more organizations around the world to aspire to win International Emmys
in future years.”

Nominees for ten other
International Emmy Awards categories will be announced on October 13 at MIPCOM
in Cannes, France. Winners will receive their awards at the 36th International
Emmy Awards Gala, November 24, in New York City.
