Hulu Scores Multiyear Deal with Sony, Unveils New Details for Originals

SANTA MONICA: Alongside presenting new details on its upcoming originals, including the drama 11/22/63, Hulu signed a new library deal with Sony that adds full seasons of series such as The Shield and Dawson’s Creek to the streaming service.

The multiyear agreement with Sony will expand Hulu’s premium content offering with all episodes of The Shield, Party of Five, Dawson’s Creek, Damages and a full list of films from the Sony archives, including Jerry Maguire, Midnight in Paris and My Best Friend’s Wedding. As part of the deal, Hulu recently made all episodes of the critically acclaimed series Happy Endings available to subscribers. All series and films acquired through the deal will be available to stream through Hulu’s No Commercial and Limited Commercials subscription plans.

At its TCA presenting, Hulu hosted panels for the drama series 11.22.63 and The Path, and unveiled details about the upcoming original series Shut Eye. Premiering February 15, 11/22/63 counts among its executive producers J.J. Abrams and Stephen King. James Franco stars. Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul leads the cast in the new series The Path, which premieres March 30. The Path comes to Hulu from Universal Television and Jason Katims’ True Jack Productions. Shut Eye, meanwhile, stars Jeffrey Donovan (Fargo, Sicario, Burn Notice). Shut Eye takes a darkly comedic look at the underground world of Los Angeles storefront psychics and the organized crime syndicate that runs them.

Hulu also announced Chance, a brand-new series led by House’s Hugh Laurie. The psychological thriller is based on the novel by Kem Nunn (Tapping the Source) about a forensic neuropsychiatrist who reluctantly gets sucked into a violent and dangerous world of mistaken identity, police corruption and mental illness.
