TORONTO/LOS ANGELES: Hulu has taken on four projects from Shaftesbury's digital division, Smokebomb Entertainment, including the drama Long Story, Short.

Along with the 11×5-minute Long Story, Short, Hulu picked up the 8×5-minute State of Syn, a dystopian 3D-enabled sci-fi motion novel. Also headed to Hulu are two tween series: Unlikely Heroes and Totally Amp'd. State of Syn launches on the platform on January 18, while Long Story, Short follows on February 15. The other two shows will roll out sometime within the next three months.

Smokebomb Entertainment has also been selected by Mind Pirate and the Canadian Film Centre’s ideaBOOST to create a State of Syn app for Google Glass. The app will extend the digital series' story into the Google Glass wearable technology realm. A launch is expected in March 2014.

“Hulu is one of the most prominent platforms in the world to offer short-form content to its audiences, and we are pleased to partner with them to extend our slate of digital projects in the U.S.,” said Ryan St. Peters, the VP of sales and business development at Shaftesbury. “The caliber of digital content we have to offer from Smokebomb rivals anything broadcast television can deliver, and Hulu has taken notice.”

“It’s always been Smokebomb's goal to create and produce content that can appear on any screen in any market, and our partnership with Hulu exemplifies this,” added Jay Bennett, the VP of digital and creative director at Smokebomb Entertainment. “Not only is this an opportunity to expand the reach of our digital slate, it also allows us to bring the companion apps for these series to wider audiences, including working with Google Glass to extend storytelling to the next generation of technology.”
