LOS ANGELES: HBO has acquired the U.S. and Canadian rights for the King Bee Productions comedy Doll & Em, which Sky Vision is launching to the international market at MIPCOM.

The series was originally commissioned for Sky Living. The 6×30-minute series comes from the new banner King Bee Productions, launched by Emily Mortimer and Alessandro Nivola. The show stars Mortimer and her real-life best friend Dolly Wells (The Mighty Boosh). The pair co-wrote the show, along with director Azazel Jacobs (Terri, Momma's Man).

“All of us are very proud to have found the perfect home for Doll & Em at HBO,” said Nivola. “They have been incredibly supportive and share our enthusiasm for the series. This is our first production under King Bee and we couldn't be more thrilled to begin unrolling the exciting projects we have in the pipeline.”

Jane Millichip, the director of sales and global brands at Sky Vision, added: “Working with Emily and Alessandro on their first production is a great coup for us. Doll & Em has widespread international appeal and we are proud to launch it at MIPCOM following the deal with HBO.”
