HBO Latin America Takes BBC Titles

LOS ANGELES/LONDON, May
18: HBO Latin America has acquired a package of three drama series and two
British films from BBC Worldwide, including the film Magnificent Seven, starring Helena Bonham Carter.

The drama series licensed
to HBO Latin America include the complete two seasons of the suspenseful crime
series Life On Mars, produced
by Kudos Film and Television and starring John Simm (State
of Play
) as a detective who is mysteriously transported back to
1973. The other drama series are Primeval
from Impossible Pictures, in which prehistoric creatures and unexplained
anomalies pose the question of whether mankind has come to the end of the
evolutionary road, and The Line of Beauty,
which is set during the hedonistic 1980s and was adapted by Andrew Davies (Bleak
House
, Bridget Jones' Diary, Pride & Prejudice) from the Booker Prize-winning novel by Alan Hollinghurst.

In addition,
HBO has picked up two British films from BBC Worldwide, including My Family
& Other Animals
,
an adaptation of Gerald Durrell's renowned autobiography that sees the
eccentric and bohemian Durrell family uproot and ship themselves off to the
Greek island of Corfu. HBO also acquired Magnificent Seven, which is inspired by a true story and
stars Helena Bonham Carter as mother-of-seven, four of whom are autistic. The
film charts the laughter and heartbreak of a family over the course of a year.

"This
deal gives audiences across Latin America the opportunity to view some
incredibly intelligent programming from our huge catalogue of world renowned
content across all genres," commented Candace Carlisle, the senior VP of
BBC Worldwide America. "A common theme with all of these titles is that
they incorporate really smart storylines that completely engross the viewer,
whether taking audiences back to prehistoric times, the beginning of the 19th
Century or the 70's and 80's, these titles are all distinctive in their
originality. HBO is the perfect home for them."
