Globo Highlights ATF Slate

 SÃO PAULO: A diverse portfolio of telenovelas, documentaries, series, mini-series and formats will be on offer from Globo TV International at the Asia Television Forum, which kicks off tomorrow in Singapore.

Globo will be presenting India: A Love Story, which was the winner of the International Emmy for best telenovela this year, for presales. The 150×45-minute production is a love story the unites two cultures, challenging the forces of tradition. The telenovela The Favorite follows two friends who are bonded by music and torn apart by their love fo the same man. Forbidden Desire is a classic tale that blends drama, romance and comedy to show that love is the greatest miracle in life. The Prophet centers on a handsome young man from the countryside who has the gift of clairvoyance. Pure Beauty is a romantic comedy that shows that life is full of surprises, and yet there’s always room for one more. 

The game show The Spelling Game is a weekly program that tests the spelling skills of various levels of competitors. Xtreme Connection features celebrities and everyday people competing in a variety of challenges that involve strength, intelligence and creativity. The Video Game is a daily quiz show in which contestants must answer questions on a wide range of topics, and wrong answers elicit embarrassment and punishment. Also on the roster are Laugh-O-Meter, which helps launch the career of new stand-up comedians, and Wreckovery, which sees old cars restored to their original state. 

The mini-series Maysa is also a highlight. The 8×45-minute production tells the story of a woman who immerses her body and soul in singing. The comedy The Cleaning Lady returns for a second season, featuring Marinete, who has a short temper and a long list of messes. Normal People spotlights a seemingly average couple who face life with a dose of humor.

In the way of documentaries there are Globo DOC, which looks at Brazil’s natural resources, and Globo DOC: Carnaval 2009, presenting the Samba Parade at the Sambódromo.

“Asia is becoming more and more of a strategic region for the distributor and ATF represents an entry for entertainment content for deals in the region,” said Raphael Correa Netto, Globo’s head of international sales.
