PROGRAMMING STRATEGY: A conventional broadcast network with a broad entertainment remit, Global programs primarily drama with comedy mixed in. There’s also a smattering of reality shows, adding to the lineup of entertainment-based programming.

During the day its schedule is a mix of news, Canadian lifestyle programming and U.S. soaps, including Days of Our Lives, As the World Turns and The Young and the Restless. In prime time, Global often simulcasts with the U.S. networks. "We have dramas and comedies that are on at the same time as on the U.S. networks," says Phil Piazza, the channel’s VP of content acquisitions.

When it comes to stocking the schedule, Piazza says he’s not currently looking to fill any gaps, but says he’s always open to good programming that fits the channel’s profile. "Back in May, when we went down to the L.A. Screenings, we bought a full slate of programming to fill our prime-time schedule. We’re always on the lookout for good programming ideas. If there’s a good opportunity that comes our way, we’re always willing and interested to entertain it."

UPCOMING HIGHLIGHTS: Global’s fall lineup includes some of the most buzz-worthy shows of the season. These include Glee, from creator Ryan Murphy (Nip/Tuck); The Cleveland Show, featuring Cleveland in his own Family Guy spin-off series; The Good Wife, starring Julianna Margulies; NCIS: LA, about a team of undercover surveillance investigators; and Melrose Place, revisiting the hit ’90s drama.

Returning prime-time hits include House, Lie To Me, NCIS, Bones, The Office, Survivor, Heroes, Brothers & Sisters, Family Guy and the 21st season of the iconic animated series The Simpsons.
