Glee Leads Golden Globe Nominations

HOLLYWOOD: Glee racked up the most nominations in the television categories for this year’s Golden Globe Awards, followed by an eight-way tie for second between contenders such as Boardwalk Empire, 30 Rock, Dexter, The Good Wife, Mad Men and Modern Family.

Glee, Modern Family, 30 Rock, The Big Bang Theory, The Big C and Nurse Jackie will face off for best comedy. On the performance side. Glee‘s Lea Michele is up for best actress, along with Toni Collete of United States of Tara, Edie Falco of Nurse Jackie, Tina Fey of 30 Rock and Laura Linney of The Big C. On the male performance side, Glee‘s Matthew Morrison is up against Alec Baldwin of 30 Rock, Steve Carell of The Office, Thomas Jane of Hung and Jim Parsons of The Big Bang Theory.

This year’s nominees for best TV drama series include Dexter, The Good Wife, Mad Men and newcomers Boardwalk Empire and The Walking Dead. In the performance categories, Julianna Margulies of The Good Wife, Elisabeth Moss of Mad Men, Piper Perabo of Covert Affairs, Katey Sagal of Sons of Anarchy and Kyra Sedgwick of The Closer scored nods, along with Steve Buscemi of Boardwalk Empire, Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad, Michael C. Hall of Dexter, Jon Hamm of Mad Men and Hugh Laurie of House.

The contenders for mini-series or TV movie are Carlos from The Sundance Channel, Pillars of the Earth from Starz and HBO’s The Pacific, Temple Grandin and You Don’t Know Jack.

For motion pictures, best drama nominees are Black Swan, The Fighter, Inception, The King’s Speech and The Social Network. Also in the drama category, best actress nominees are Halle Berry from Frankie and Alice, Nicole Kidman for Rabbit Hole, Jennifer Lawrence for Winter’s Bone, Natalie Portman for Black Swan and Michelle Williams for Blue Valentine. Male performance nominees are Jesse Eisenberg for The Social Network, Colin Firth for The King’s Speech, James Franco for 127 Hours, Ryan Gosling for Blue Valentine and Mark Wahlberg for The Fighter.

The films up for best comedy or musical are Alice in Wonderland, Burlesque, The Kids are All Right, Red and The Tourist. Actress nominees for comedy or musical are Annette Benning for The Kids are All Right, Anne Hathaway for Love and Other Drugs, Angelina Jolie for The Tourist, Julianne Moore for The Kids are All Right and Emma Stone for Easy A. Johnny Depp was nominated twice in the best actor category, with a nod for Alice in Wonderland and another for The Tourist. Depp is up against Paul Giamatti for Barney’s Version, Jake Gyllenhaal for Love and Other Drugs and Kevin Spacey for Casino Jack.

The nominees for best animated feature film are Despicable Me, How to Train Your Dragon, The Illusionist, Tangled and Toy Story 3. The competitors for best foreign language film are Biutiful from Mexico/Spain, The Concert from France, The Edge from Russia, I Am Love from Italy and In a Better World from Denmark.
