Geminis Awarded for Kids, Comedy, Drama, Variety

 

TORONTO: Shaftesbury’s Life with Derek and Breakthrough’s Less Than Kind were among the winners at the second part of the 24th Annual Gemini Awards last night, which honored achievements in the children’s and youth, comedy, drama and variety categories.

The event was held at The Sound Academy in Toronto and was hosted by Ennis Esmer of CTV’s The Listener and Zoie Palmer of Global’s The Guard. A total of 24 awards were presented. These included Cuppa Coffee’s Life’s a Zoo.tv for best animated program or series. In the best children’s or youth categories, Shaftesbury’s Life with Derek was named best fiction series, while TVO Kids’ Mark’s Moments scored the non-fiction win. CBC’s Kids’ Canada was named best preschool program or series. The best cross platform project award went to CBC News: Ormiston Online.

Less Than Kind took the award for best direction in a comedy, while The Terrorist Next Door picked up the win for best direction in a drama. The best music, variety show was So You Think You Can Dance Canada.

Other shows that picked up directing, writing or performance nods last night included Degrassi: The Next Generation 8Reality ObsessedRollbotsMystery HuntersAtomic Betty, Flashpoint and Stargate Atlantis.
