Game Shows, Comedies, Docs in the Mix from Globo

SÃO PAULO: Among the diverse offerings from Globo TV International for buyers at the L.A. Screenings are the game show The Spelling Game, the telenovela Two Faces and comedy series The Cleaning Lady.

The Spelling Game combines education and entertainment, watching students of various levels compete through eliminatory phases to show that they are the master of their own language. Also in the game-show catalogue, Xtreme Connection watches regular people and celebrities compete in challenges that involve strength, intelligence and creativity; The Video Game is a daily quiz show where contestants are questioned on a wide array of topics; and Laugh-O-Meter looks to launch the career of a new stand-up comedian. Further game shows include Wreckovery, a reality format that features stories of people who receive a transformation alongside the refurbishing of their vehicle.

In the mini-series catalogue is Maysa, the story of a woman ahead of her time, who gave herself to life, love and music. There are also a host of novelas on offer from Globo. Among them Two Faces, about a successful businessman who once bore a different face and different name; The Favorite, centered on two friends who were bonded by their love of music, but separated by their passion for the same man; Forbidden Desire, a classic tale that combines drama, romance and comedy to demonstrate that love is still the greatest miracle; and The Prophet, about a handsome young man from the countryside who is clairvoyant. Pure Beauty is another telenovela in the Globo stable. It is a romantic comedy that shows that life is always full of surprises, and that they keep on coming.

The comedy The Cleaning Lady is back with a second season. The show follows the adventures of a woman whose tasked with washing, ironing and cooking, and makes people laugh all the while. Also in the comedy category, Normal People looks behind the closed doors of a seemingly average couple who have many hidden abnormalities in their life.

Once again, Globo will be presenting its documentary series Globo DOC, which explores the colors, sounds and riches of Brazil. Globo DOC: Carnaval 2009 presents the Samba Parade at the Sambódromo, the half-mile runway that sets the stage for one of the biggest shows on Earth.
