Fox Soccer Channel to Feature World Cup Qualifying Games

LOS ANGELES, August 26: Starting
in September, Fox Soccer Channel will broadcast 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying
matches from Asia and Europe as teams compete for a trip to South Africa.

Fox Soccer Channel has
added Asian matches to its lineup of World Cup qualifying events for the first
time. Coverage of that region begins September 6 with contests between Saudi
Arabia versus Iran and Bahrain versus Japan. On September 10, North Korea and
South Korea face off.

European qualifying
matches also begin September 6, including a live and exclusive match between
Hungary and Denmark at 1:30 p.m. Among the European teams
to be featured throughout the rest of the 2008 qualifying period are current
European champion Spain, England,
the Netherlands, Russia and the Czech Republic.

“Soccer fans know that
some of the most gripping and compelling World Cup action happens before the
final tournament even begins,” said David Sternberg, Fox Soccer Channel’s
executive VP and general manager. “As we saw when England failed to reach the
2008 European Championships, there are no guarantees in qualifying for major
tournaments. We’re excited to showcase the best teams and players in Asia and
Europe to an American audience.”
