FID Reports Eastern European Deals

LONDON, July 11: Fremantle
International Distribution (FID) notched up a slate of Central and Eastern
European deals at DISCOP last month on key titles such as the six-part Prehistoric
Park
.

The factual series Prehistoric Park from Impossible Pictures sold to TV Kultura in
Russia and STB in the Ukraine and negotiations are underway with eight other
broadcasters in the region.

TV Kultura and STB also took two one-hour specials from
Atlantic Productions: Spartacus and Herod:
Behind the Myth
. These titles were also licensed
to Slovak TV and Viasat. Other factual deals for FID at DISCOP include the sale
of War of The Birds and Battleplan to HBO/Spektrum in Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Falcon Beach,
launched at MIPTV, generated interest from broadcasters in attendance. The
26-part drama for Global TV in Canada and ABC Family in the U.S. has sold to
20-plus markets, with deals with the BBC, ABC Australia, M6, TV 4 in Sweden, La
Sexta in Spain and Sony in Latin America.

The German telenovela Bianca—Road to Happiness sold to Latvia (LNT) and the Czech Republic (Nova). Further,
the period drama Fingersmith,
went to TV Kultura in Russia and Romania’s Antena 1 acquired the U.S. version
of The Apprentice. Comedy deals include It’s A Man’s World to Bulgaria (Fox Life), The Benny Hill
