Eurocinema Launches on Cablevision

LOS ANGELES: Eurocinema, a network dedicated to bringing European films to North American audiences, will launch on Cablevision this month, making the VOD service available in 24 million households in the U.S. and Canada.

At launch, Cablevision will feature Eurocinema titles such as Alice’s House, winner of 40 international film awards; Yella, a German film about a woman trying to escape an abusive life; Mala uva, a Spanish dark comedy; and Love is All, a Dutch film about three couples having troubles. Each feature film serves as the centerpiece of a hosted, two-hour thematic programming block designed to provide perspective on the film’s main theme, with such supplemental content as host commentary, original documentaries and director interviews, as well as rarely seen short-format films relevant to the feature.

"We’re delighted to add Cablevision to our list of top cable and satellite partners across the U.S. and Canada," said Sebastien Perioche, the chairman and CEO of Eurocinema. "We’re proud to make available to U.S. television audiences films that have had major success in Europe and around the world. On-demand provides the perfect platform for Eurocinema’s multicultural offering. Consumers may select films, at any time from the country and language of their choice, all from the comfort of their own living rooms."

"Cablevision is pleased to now offer International Movies On Demand as part of our VOD offering, a valuable addition to the multitude of services available to our international customers," added Gary Schanman, Cablevision’s senior VP of video product management. "The addition of hit foreign films from Europe, Spain and Latin America and South Asia demonstrates Cablevision’s continued commitment to provide our customers with unique content that meets their programming needs."
