Drama Mini-Series Nabs Record Ratings in Germany

MUNICH, March 5: March of Millions, the
two-part drama mini-series from teamWorx and EOS about the fate of East-Prussian
refugees during World War II, has garnered record ratings in Germany, with
public broadcaster ARD tallying 11.2 million viewers and averaging a
29.5-percent market share.

The mini-series also scored impressive results among the
14-49 target demographic, with a market share of over 19 percent. In a
preliminary broadcast by the Franco-German TV station Arte, up to 2.6 million
viewers had already seen the two-part mini-series last Friday, representing the
best-ever Arte ratings in Germany.

Directed by Kai Wessel, March of Millions features Countess Lena von Mahlenberg, played by Maria Furtwaengler, who returns
to her ancestral home in East Prussia to make peace with her gravely ill
father. She not only re-enters the genteel world of the East-Prussian nobility,
but also assumes responsibility for the estate and considers marrying Count
Heinrich von Gernstorff, played by Tonio Arango, who is also a high-ranking
Nazi officer. As the front draws ever nearer and the stream of refugees grows,
Lena is constantly reminded of the approaching catastrophe by a French
prisoner-of-war working on the estate named François Beauvais, played by
Jean-Yves Berteloot. A tender but socially unacceptable romance blossoms
between them as the two become better acquainted. Eventually, by January 1945,
as the population of East Prussia is fleeing, Lena must take charge of her
family and the estate's dependents, leading them on a risky trek into an
uncertain future.

teamWorx and EOS also racked up record ratings on German TV
last year with Dresden—The Inferno
and Stormtide! To date, Dresden—The
Inferno
, which chronicles the story of the
Allied bombing of Dresden shortly before the end of the war, has been sold into
95 countries by Beta Film. The film was produced by teamWorx Television & Film in
coproduction with ARD Degeto, BR, WDR, SWR, HR, ORF, Arte and EOS with backing
from FFF Bayern, Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, Nordmedia and MEDIA+ in
association with Beta Film.
