DOC to Launch IMAX programming block

NASHVILLE: The Documentary Channel (DOC) has plans to launch an exclusive block of IMAX originals on Sunday nights, starting April 12 with the premiere of three films from its 21-title package.

DOC has the exclusive U.S. television rights to the IMAX XXI Film Package through a multi-year contract through Northstar Media. Throughout the month of April, DOC will air IMAX films that celebrate man’s journey into space. On April 12, DOC will air Hail Columbia!, looking at the inaugural voyage of the world’s first space shuttle. Next up is Space Station, narrated by Tom Cruise. Destiny in Space pays tribute to the continuing exploration of the solar system. Other IMAX films slated to air on DOC are The Dream is Alive with news icon Walter Cronkite, and Mission to Mir, about the world’s first long-term space station.

"It is with great pride that The Documentary Channel is the first network to premiere these extraordinary and often breathtaking IMAX films to television audiences in North America," said Tom Neff, The Documentary Channel’s CEO and founder. "IMAX has established a well-deserved one-of-a-kind reputation for filmmaking, and we hope viewers will take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy our new IMAX Originals lineup every Sunday."
