Distraction Inks Deal with NBC for Scripted Comedy Format

LONDON, September 10: Distraction has licensed the Canadian
scripted comedy format Serial Frank,
nominated for seven 2007 Gemini Awards, to NBC in the U.S.

Originally produced by Marc Grenier from the Locomotion
Group, Distraction launched Serial Frank
at MIPTV in April. The comedy format is based on writer-director Jean-François
Asselin’s award-winning 2003 short Personal Distortion. The first season of the series premiered in 2006 on
Séries + in Canada and has just finished airing its second run.

Serial Frank looks at
the daily ins and outs of the life of an ordinary single man named Frank,
including his job, friends, relatives and quest for romance. However, Frank
must figure out what to do when his “inner selves” show up on his doorstep,
uninvited and in the flesh. As he ponders what to do, his inner thoughts battle
around him he finds himself being pulled in different directions by a platoon
of comic personalities.

Teri Weinberg, the executive VP of NBC Entertainment,
commented: “We have a proven hit to base our series on as well as a visionary
creative team with a winning track record who can elevate this idea onto an
even higher creative plane for American audiences. We’re very excited about the
project and our association with the entire team responsible for bringing the
concept to our company.”

Added Michel Rodrigue, the president and CEO for
Distraction: “I have every confidence the U.S. version will be an exceptional
production and will reflect the brilliance of this critically acclaimed
format.”
