Disney Forms Local Partnership to Sell Products in India

NEW DELHI, October 9: Walt Disney Co. has formed a
partnership with India’s Jaipuria Group to expand its presence and sell its
products in the fast-growing Indian market, according to reports.

Disney will release details of the agreement next week. The
plans appear to include the establishment of retail stores to sell Disney
products such as toys and apparel. The agreement comes three months after
Disney’s $30 million purchase of Hungama, the Indian children’s cable and
satellite channel.

India recently said it would permit foreign companies to
invest in retail stores specializing in single-brand products as long as the
investment is in conjunction with Indian companies.
