BUENOS AIRES/LONDON: Production has begun on Violetta, the first original live-action series created by Disney Channel Latin America and Disney Channels Europe, Middle East and Africa.

Violetta is about a teenager who returns to her native Buenos Aires and finds a passion for music after living in Europe. It will be filmed entirely in Latin America and the cast features Argentine, Mexican, Brazilian, Spanish and Italian actors. It will premiere on Disney Channels across Latin America and EMEA in 2012.

“With key components such as original music, humor and excellent inspirational stories, we are excited to present Violetta, Disney Channel Latin America’s first co-production with other Disney Channels in the world,” said Cecilia Mendonça, the general manager of Disney Channels Latin America. “We raised the stakes by creating an original production that targets two very different audiences—Latin American and European—and we trust that they will both connect with this show, which will not only include local elements that kids can relate to, but also actors that represent both regions.”

Giorgio Stock, the executive VP and general manager of content division of The Walt Disney Company EMEA, commented, “Disney’s mission is to work with the best talent around the world to create shows that resonate with audiences on a global and local level. Violetta is a fantastic example of creative teams coming together to make this vision a reality. We’ve already broken new ground with our highly successful kids’ telenovelas formats across Europe and Violetta takes it up a notch by casting a hugely talented and truly multi-cultural cast making it an incredibly exciting proposition for our audiences.”
