Discovery Revenues Up 10 Percent

ENGLEWOOD, August 11:
Second quarter revenues at Discovery Communications increased 10 percent on the
year-ago period to $863 million, driven by the company’s international
portfolio of networks.

Adjusted operating income
before depreciation and amortization (OIBDA) gained 19 percent in the segment
to $315 million.

At Discovery Networks
U.S., revenues gained 6 percent to $549 million. And adjusted OIBDA went up by
16 percent to $285 million. Excluding the year-ago revenue from the Travel
Channel, which Discovery has since sold, revenues were up 11 percent.
Distribution revenue grew 14 percent and advertising revenue increased by 9
percent.

At Discovery Networks
International, revenues gained 21 percent to $301 million, with an adjusted
OIBDA of $87 million, a 55-percent increase. The revenue gains were led by a
23-percent increase in distribution revenues, driven by EMEA—excluding
the U.K.—and Latin America. Plus, advertising revenues went up by 12
percent.

Discovery Commerce and
Education, meanwhile, posted a 39-percent revenue drop to $20 million,
resulting in an adjusted OIBDA loss of $3 million.
