DirecTV & Fox Settle Carriage Dispute

EL SEGUNDO: The Fox Networks bouquet of channels will remain on DirecTV after the two managed to reach a new carriage deal, narrowly averting a programming blackout.

More than two dozen Fox cable networks, including FX and a number of regional sports channels, were set to be dropped from DirecTV today if a new deal was not reached. The new agreement includes Fox’s cable channels, as well as the local stations that carry the programming of the Fox Broadcasting Co., including NFL game.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"We both know the past ten days have been challenging, but we’re pleased that both sides could eventually come together to ensure our viewers continue to enjoy Fox programming," the companies said in a statement.

The issue arose when DirecTV began complaining that Fox was seeking an increase of 40 percent. Fox later took out advertisements that suggested that consumers abandon DirecTV for other services. DirecTV sent a letter to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) accusing Fox of a misleading ad campaign.
