Deutsche Welle Expands Arabic Programming

BONN: Deutsche Welle’s DW-TV Arabia has slated a six-hour block of programming in Arabic, with the core schedule made up of four half-hour segments of the news flagship Journal.

DW-TV Arabia has launched the six-hour block in Arabic for prime time. English-language programming will complete the channel’s 24-hour lineup. Until now, the schedule alternated hourly between Arabic, or German with Arabic subtitles, and English.

There will now be Arabic-language versions of Arts.21 and Global 3000. Four new talk shows have been added as well. Shabatalk is a co-production with Al Hayah TV, the leading station in Egypt. On the Pulse features Arab and German experts discussing issues related to politics, government and economics. Talking to the Press is a roundtable discussion with German and European editors-in-chief and their Arab colleagues. Guest of the Week features public figures discussing the current developments int he Arab world.

“With DW-TV ARABIA’s consolidated schedule, we are offering attractive programming in Arabic for our target audience between Morocco and the UAE,” said Deutsche Welle’s director of television, Christoph Lanz. “In an era of such political instability, we are meeting the needs of our viewers by offering reliable news, insights and information.”
