TORONTO: CTV and Discovery Communications have extended their Discovery Canada joint venture, which includes the English-language broadcast rights in Canada for programming from Discovery Channel, Discovery Science, Discovery Health, Discovery HD Theatre and Investigation Discovery.

Also with the new pact, Discovery Canada can feature Discovery-branded content on additional platforms, including online, VOD and mobile. Plus, CTV secures the English-language rights to launch new Discovery branded channels in Canada—excluding TLC and Military Channel, and the OWN and Hub joint ventures.

“Having just celebrated 15 groundbreaking years, this is a wonderful time to be charting the course for Discovery Channel Canada’s next decade,” said Susanne Boyce, the president of creative, content and channels at CTV Inc. “I couldn’t be more thrilled by this expanded and renewed deal with our DCI partners that will allow us to keep growing, evolving, and continue to set the bar for factual entertainment in Canada.”

“We have enjoyed a successful partnership with CTV in the Discovery Channel Canada joint venture,” added Mark Hollinger, the president and CEO of Discovery Networks International. “This new agreement further strengthens the portfolio offering of the Discovery-branded channels in Canada.”
