Crime, Romance Series Deliver for ZDF Enterprises

CANNES: A slew of series from the crime genre, along with high-quality romance titles, factual programming and kids’ fare, from ZDF Enterprises have found demand from the international market.

KDD sold to Latin America, Canada, the U.S. and Portuguese-speaking countries through Eurochannel. The Fifth Commandment is to air on AXN in Spain, Mediaset in Italy and V-me in the U.S. Hispanic market. Spain’s AXN also went for Cologne P.D. and Hamburg Dockland. Finland’s YLE acquired Stuttgart Homicide and Siska. Overall, ZDF Enterprises landed deals for 240 commercial hours of German police thrillers. 

Factual series have also seen a healthy appetite. License to Drill went to Discovery UK and Delta Divers to Five in the U.K. Eight documentaries were picked up in Australia and the U.K., seven in Italy, ten in German-language countries, 16 in far Eastern territories and more than 80 hours are headed to Greece. 

ZDF Enterprises’ slate of romantic TV movies have seen interest from Switzerland (Pilcher), Estonia (Pilcher and Lindström), Germany (the Bastei Collection), Belgium’s RTBF (over 20 TV movies) and France’s TF1 (eight TV movies). The first 250 episodes of Julia: Way to Happiness sold to Persia 1 for the Middle East, and episodes 501-789 went to Estonia’s Kanal 2.

In the way of children’s fare, with H2O: Just Add Water, all available episodes have been picked up by Spain’s Antena 3, Germany’s Turner, Poland’s MSZ and the Ukraine’s 1 + 1. Dance Academy is headed to Switzerland (SF), Belgium (Vitaya) and in Latin America (Cartoon Network). All 104 episodes of the new 3D animated series The Jungle Book have been acquired by Disney for Spain and Portugal.
