CANNES: Beta Film has scooped up a set of select territory rights for the crime drama Copper in a deal with Cineflix Studios.

The ten-hour crime series, co-commissioned with BBC America, is set in 1860s New York City. It centers around an Irish-immigrant cop working in the city’s notorious Five Points neighborhood. Beta Films has picked up the distribution rights for Germany, France, Southern and Eastern Europe and Asia.

Oliver Bachert, the VP of international acquisitions at Beta Film, said: "We are proud to work again, after Borgia, with Tom Fontana on his next show-running project Copper. The crime genre combined with the structure of compelling horizontal story telling provides great potential for free- and pay-TV channels around the world.”

Glen Salzman, the CEO of Cineflix Media, said: “Copper is the first exciting project to be greenlit by Cineflix Studios, which is growing rapidly as Cineflix continues to develop high-quality scripted programming and attract the best talent in the business. We are very pleased to be partnering with Beta, a company with a long track record and outstanding reputation, to distribute the series.”
