Christiane Amanpour to Receive International Emmy Directorate Award

Christiane Amanpour is set to receive the 2019 International Academy Directorate Emmy Award.

The award will be presented to Amanpour at the International Emmy Awards in New York on November 25. Previous Directorate Award honorees include Endemol Shine Group’s Sophie Turner Laing, Televisa’s Emilio Azcarraga Jean, former HBO chief Richard Plepler and Globo’s Roberto Irineu Marinho.

Amanpour is chief international anchor for CNN and host of the PBS and CNN International global affairs show Amanpour.

Bruce L. Paisner, president and CEO of the International Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, commented, “Christiane Amanpour has been on the frontline of broadcast news for over 35 years. Her personal contributions and influence on the development of global newsgathering make her a defining figure for the news community. Her work and her standards are especially important today as the press is increasingly being targeted and silenced. We look forward to honoring her exemplary career and recognizing the importance of an independent press, with our Directorate Award.”

“My career has not focused on the destination but rather on the journey,” Amanpour said. “It’s one that’s led me to the firm belief that we must stand up for the truth. I am honored by this award, as I continue my work to always be truthful not neutral.”
