Chase Carey Returns to News Corp.

NEW YORK: Chase Carey, the CEO of the DIRECTV Group, has been named deputy chairman, president and COO of News Corporation, reporting directly to Rupert Murdoch. 

Carey is to join the board of directors of News Corp. on July 1, when Peter Chernin steps down as director. He will have oversight of the company’s global operations and will be based in New York. Previously, Carey spent 15 years as a senior executive at News Corp. before heading to DIRECTV in 2003. He served as co-COO of News Corp. from 1996 to 2002, as well as co-COO of the Fox Entertainment Group from 1998 until 2002.
