NEW YORK: Univision Communications’ Galavisión Network is on the lookout for Spanish-language “edutainment/infotainment” programming for prime time.

ON THE RECORD: SEBASTIAN TRUJILLO, SENIOR VP, OPERATING MANAGER, GALAVISIÓN NETWORK
How do you schedule the channel from morning through late night, Monday through Sunday?
Galavisión is scheduled very similar to a broadcast network, particularly in early morning and daytime. Our mornings begin with a three-hour show, Primero Noticias, that covers news and sports as well as entertainment and general interest interviews; followed by a female 18-49-focused daytime programming block (entertainment gossip, cooking and lifestyle shows). Mid-afternoons, prime access and prime-time features programming that is more male-skewing, with a shift to more comedies, news, documentaries and crime investigation programs checker boarding the schedule from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. In addition, we have strong sports programming including Mexican League soccer, U.S. Men’s National Team soccer, as well as top soccer tournaments including the CONCACAF Champions League and Copa de Oro (Gold Cup).

Are you acquiring content from the international market?
Yes, in addition to our program license agreement with Televisa, we have strong relationships with TV Globo, BBC, Endemol Worldwide Distribution, Spiral and other international content providers.

Are you buying second-run content from within the U.S.?
We have purchased some second-run content from New Dominion and others in the U.S. We have also re-purposed content from our own Univision Communications sister networks and air encore versions of those programs on Galavisión.

What is your approach to commissioning new productions from U.S. producers?
We are looking to continue to grow our audience, and our pursuit of viewers has led us to branch out and expand our reach, particularly with males 18-49, through crime investigative programming and other similar offerings that perform well in prime time.

Do you have any blocks or slots you are looking to fill?
We have gotten a strong response to reality/documentary content and are looking to add more that fit in the “edutainment/infotainment”
genre to our prime-time schedule. Our prime-time cable viewers, specifically in Spanish-language, are looking for this type of content to complement the strong sports, news, general entertainment and lifestyle programming
