CBS, Time Warner Mull Joint Olympics Bid

NEW YORK, December 18: CBS
Corporation and Time Warner are said to be considering a joint bid for the
rights to the 2014 and 2016 Olympics, reports indicate, in a partnership that
would utilize the CBS broadcast network and the Turner Broadcasting cable
channels.

If the two media companies
enter the fray, they will be up against all the other broadcasters: FOX, ABC
and NBC, which has had the rights to the Olympics since 1988. NBC Universal
tapped into all of its broadcast, cable and online outlets for its Beijing
coverage this year, breaking viewership records by drawing in an audience of
some 214 million. NBCU also shored up more than $1 billion in advertising for
the games this summer.
