Castaway Returns to the BBC

LONDON, July 21: The reality series Castaway is returning to the BBC for second season, five
years since its first run, courtesy of Lion Television, whose managing
director, Jeremy Mills, devised the concept.

Like the original, the new season will see participants going
off to live as a community in a remote destination. The new episodes, however,
will be broadcast live from an “exotic location.” The show is set to air on BBC
One and BBC Three, and Lion is currently in the process of casting.

“The castaways will explore the best ways to live in close
quarters with people that they may not have much in common with, draw on
personal skills to develop the infrastructure of the island and, in the
process, discover more about themselves as individuals,” Lion TV said in a press
release.

The original series of Castaway began broadcasting on BBC One in January 2000, six
months before Big Brother first
appeared on Channel 4. The show’s audience peaked at 7.8 million.

Lion has also received two other commissions from the BBC: Let
Me Entertain You
, a 20×45-minute talent
show for BBC Two; and The Wedding Show, a 5×1-hour production for BBC One.
