Canadian & Korean Producer Groups Sign MOU

The Canadian Media Producers Association (CMPA) and the Producers Guild of Korea (PGK) have signed a memorandum of understanding to promote international co-production opportunities.

The agreement builds on Canadian trade missions to Korea that took place in 2025 and 2025 as part of the Year of Cultural Exchanges between Canada and Korea. It also follows the recent delegation to Busan in September 2025, where Canadian producers attended the Asian Contents & Film Market (ACFM).

The MOU will provide a foundation for future collaboration, particularly following the completion of a modernized co-production treaty between the two countries, expected to be announced in 2026.

“Canada’s exceptional talent, great crews and innovative spirit create a perfect backdrop for collaboration,” said Reynolds Mastin, president and CEO of CMPA. “Alongside Korea’s vibrant cultural heritage, strong technological advances and a dynamic industry presence, this partnership unlocks exciting possibilities for crafting captivating content that resonates with global audiences.”

“Given the strengths of our two production sectors, there is a massive opportunity for Canadian and Korean producers to create what could be some of the most compelling content on the planet,” added Kyle Irving, board chair of CMPA and co-owner and executive producer at Eagle Vision. “This MOU gives producers in both countries a powerful path forward to get new projects produced and is an important step on the road to a modernized co-production treaty.”

Lee Dong-ha, president of PGK, commented, “It is deeply meaningful to establish an official partnership between the film and media producer organizations of Korea and Canada through this MOU. While Canada serves as a gateway connecting North America and Europe, Korea has established itself as a dynamic creative hub in Asia. We look forward to seeing the exceptional creators and production talent from both nations come together—supported by close collaboration among producers—to bring bolder and more creative global content to audiences around the world.”
