Call Me Fitz Scores Gemini Wins

TORONTO: The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television have announced the winners for the Gemini Awards across a number of categories, with Call Me Fitz picking up six trophies last night.

The sitcom won for best comedy direction, best comedy writing, best picture editing for a sitcom and best comedy sound editing. Ernie Grunwald won for best supporting actor in a comedy and best supporting actress in a sitcom went to Rachel Blanchard.

The crime drama Flashpoint scored three Gemini Awards, for best dramatic actor performance for Sergio Di Zio, best guest dramatic actor for Tim Rozon and best dramatic writing for creators Mark Ellis and Stephanie Morgenstern.

The mini-series The Kennedys won three trophies (best performance by a leading actor in a drama or mini-series for Barry Pepper, best performance by an actress in a featured supporting role in a drama or mini series for Diana Hardcastle, and best photography in a drama for David Moxness). The Borgias also scored three awards (best production design or art direction in a fiction program for François Séguin, best costume design for Gabriella Pescucci, and best direction in a drama for Jeremy Podeswa).

In the kids’ programming arena, the long-running teen series Degrassi picked up three Geminis, including best youth series. Hot Wheels: Battle Force Five was named best animated series.

CBC’s Dragon’s Den won for best reality TV series.
