CABLEready Supports Japan Relief Efforts

NORWALK: CABLEready and Re: Source Media have teamed up in an effort to assist fundraising for Japan’s earthquake and tsunami victims with the hour-long special Through the Eye of the Storm: A Celebration of Japan, which is being offered free of charge to broadcasters worldwide.

The HD special will showcase Japan and features content from two series recently filmed in Japan by Re: Source Media. Rather than commercials, the breaks in the program will feature calls to action to support the work of the American Red Cross, the Salvation Army and GlobalGiving in raising funds for to help victims in Japan. The special will have its world premiere on CNBC World in the U.S. and simulcast in Canada on March 26.

The companies are offering the show to any network free of charge, provided the program can be scheduled to attract support.

Kevin Fox, the CEO of Re: Source Media, commented, “We have production bureaus in Bangkok and Beijing and have spent a lot of time working in Japan over the years. We also have Japanese employees on staff and so as a company we felt compelled to do something in our own way to help.” Gary Lico, the president and CEO of CABLEready, added, “We’ve always reached out to aid worthy causes.
