Breakthrough Receives TELETOON Commission

TORONTO: Breakthrough Films & Television has been commissioned by TELETOON Canada to produce a new prime-time family comedy, Crash Canyon.

Crash Canyon follows the Wendells, whose lives take an interesting turn when they drive off a cliff and land in an inescapable canyon. They will meet other mistfits that have already been stuck down there for years, living in a makeshift community. Breakthrough will produce 13 half-hour episodes, together with Joel Cohen, the co-executive producer of The Simpsons, and series creators Jam Filled Entertainment.

“I’m thrilled to be working with Breakthrough and TELETOON," said Cohen. "I was originally ‘ecstatic,’ but that level of excitement isn’t healthy for me, so I’ve been medicated down to ‘thrilled.’  Either way, I can’t wait!!"

“What really excites me about this project is that we are welcoming back a great Canadian talent,” commented Len Cochrane, the president of TELETOON. “Joel is a smart, funny man and with his expertise, along with Breakthrough as a production partner, we’re set to have an impressive prime-time comedy that will shine in TELETOON at Night.”

“We are so excited about getting the greenlight from TELETOON on Crash Canyon," said Joan Lambur, Breakthrough’s executive producer of animation, live action, family and children. "We’re all thrilled to be working with Joel Cohen and a team of a-list comedy writers as well as working with the creators from Jam Filled Entertainment in Ottawa. This further cements Breakthrough’s presence in the family comedy space.”
