Biggest Loser Gets Asian Adaptation

SINGAPORE: Hallmark Channel in Asia has greenlit its own version of The Biggest Loser, marking the NBC Universal Global Networks-owned channel’s first local production in the region.

The Asian version of the hit NBC unscripted show will be produced by Imagine OmniMedia, whose credits include The Contender Asia, and will air on Hallmark Channel in 20 territories. The ordering of a local version follows the channel’s acquisition of eight seasons of the original American edition early this year. “Hallmark Channel is synonymous with the best inspirational shows from around the world," said Karen Johnston, the programming director for NBC Universal Global Networks. "Like our programs, we want to motivate our viewers to truly live life, and what better way than to give many in Asia a taste of The Biggest Loser’s success formula! The Biggest Loser Asia is a rare chance for many to change their lives forever. The Biggest Loser has gained immense popularity in Asia and Hallmark Channel will definitely heighten the excitement of the show with its first local production endeavor.”

Casting for the Asian series has already begun and 30 contestants will be selected from the region (outside of Japan, Australia and New Zealand), ranging in age from 18 to 55. The winner will receive $100,000.
