Behind the Music Gets Latin Treatment

MIAMI, August 14: VH1
Latin America is set to premiere the first locally produced episode of the Behind
the Music
franchise, featuring
Argentine rock band Sumo, on August 21 at 10 p.m.

The episode highlights the
origins and success of Sumo, leading up to the death of frontman Luca Prodan
and the band’s break-up that followed. Behind the Music: Sumo is the first of three original episodes produced in
Latin America that features artists from the region. Behind the Music: Virus
and Behind the Music: Gloria
Trevi
will follow.

Behind the Music provides an overview of the careers of famous bands
and musicians, from their beginnings in the business to the present. The show
combines archived images and testimonials from individuals close to the
artists. VH1 has produced nearly 200 episodes of the franchise.

“We are very proud to have
produced local episodes honoring these artists who are part of pop culture in
the region,” said José Tillán, the senior VP of creative, content and music for
MTV/VH1 Latin America. “We conduct a great deal of research into each artist’s
career and handle production very carefully so that it will resonate with VH1’s
audience. These acts have left an undeniable impact on the music scene and in
the hearts of millions of people in Latin America.”

“The Behind The Music franchise is a valuable part of music television
history around the world and we are very proud to have created such a unique
and high-quality episode with Behind the Music: Sumo,” added Fernando Gastón, the VP of content for
MTV/VH1 Latin America. “The VH1 brand coupled with locally relevant content is
sure to provide an explosive formula, never before seen in a region with so
much potential.”
