Bebo Names New Head of Original Productions

LONDON, August 22: The
AOL-owned social-networking site Bebo, home to Internet series such as KateModern, The Gap Year and Sofia’s Diary, has appointed Kelly Brett as its new head of
original productions.

Based in London, Brett
will be responsible for vetting potential projects and building a collaborative
relationship with Bebo’s production partners and advertisers. Among Brett’s
first original commissions will be The Secret World of Sam King. A first between a social network and a music
company, The Secret World of Sam King revolves around a junior 'facilities' employee at Universal Music who
secretly founds his own start-up label in the post room.

Brett joins Bebo after a
year of working on KateModern,
a show that has achieved more than 67 million views within 12 months. Brett has
also worked on more than 20 TV productions for, among others, the BBC, Sky and
ITV.

Kate Burns, the managing
director of Bebo Europe, said: “At Bebo we are committed to creating one of the
most exciting and unique social-media experiences on the web, and the success
of KateModern, Sofia’s Diary and The Gap Year shows that Beboers are enthusiastic about truly
engaging with media. We’re proud that Bebo is seen as the place for outstanding
original content online and Kelly will bring with her a depth of experience and
knowledge in this field to further strengthen our already fantastic team.”
