MIAMI: BBC Worldwide has secured a deal with Vivicast Media that sees more than 700 hours of classic BBC content heading to English-speaking Caribbean islands through CalaClassics.

The four-year deal includes 1,500 episodes of classic BBC sitcoms and soap operas such as EastEnders, Yes Minister, The Black Adder and Last of the Summer Wine, as well as early seasons of internationally successful series such as Doctor Who and Being Erica. These and other titles will air on CalaClassics in territories including the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Jamaica, St. Lucia, St. Martin, and Trinidad and Tobago later this year.

“This new agreement allows us to expand the presence of the BBC brand beyond our own network and to offer English-speaking Caribbean audiences some of the titles that have positioned the BBC as a production powerhouse in the television industry worldwide,” said Anna Gordon, the executive VP and managing director of BBC Worldwide for Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic market.

“Offering CalaClassics high-quality titles from BBC Worldwide is a way for us to continue showcasing our business partners, both operators and content providers,” added Stuart Smitherman, the president of Vivicast Media. “Thanks to our customized acquisitions and licensing, we are able to pinpoint what each party wants and needs to make its side of the business a success.”
