CANNES: A number of new drama and comedy titles have been acquired by BBC Worldwide Channels for BBC Entertainment in Africa.

Headed to BBC Entertainment in Africa is Miranda, a sitcom that follows the misadventures of the title character, played by Miranda Hart. The comedy will start airing on the channel in October. There’s also The Street, with seasons one through three heading to the network. Each episode focuses on a different house in its North England setting. The drama series will launch in its first season in Africa in August. Both series are distributed by ITV Studios Global Entertainment.

Bun Scrase-Dickins, the VP of acquisitions at BBC Worldwide Channels, said, "We’re always on the lookout for high-quality programs that not only fit well with the BBC brand, but also resonate with our international audiences. These shows have been popular in the U.K. and we’re delighted to deliver them to audiences in Africa on BBC Entertainment."
