BBC World Signs Deal with Korea’s TU Media

LONDON, December 14: BBC World has inked a deal that brings
a slate of its programs to the Korean satellite-based mobile broadcasting
service TU Media.

BBC World is the first international news broadcaster to
create its own block of programs on TU Media, which is Korea’s first S-DMB
(satellite-based mobile broadcasting) provider. BBC World live and recorded
programs, including Asia Business Report,
World Business Report and Click, will air from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on ch. GREEN.

Nic van Zwanenberg, BBC World’s regional director for
distribution and business development in Asia, notes, “This is an important
milestone for BBC World as we are the first international news channel
available to TU Media’s subscribers. The partnership also allows us to be seen
on some of the most advanced technology in the world and we are proud to be
involved with such an innovative platform.”

TU Media, a subsidiary of mobile telephony service provider
SK Telecom, launched its satellite-based mobile broadcasting service in May
2005. It currently has about 1 million subscribers, delivering 15 video
channels incorporating drama, sports, games, news, music and movies, as well as
19 audio channels.
