BBC to Receive Banff Outstanding Achievement Award

TORONTO, April 23: The
Banff World Television Festival (BWTVF) will present its 2007 Outstanding
Achievement Award to the BBC on Sunday, June 10, at the Fairmont Springs, in
Banff, Canada, with Director-General Mark Thompson accepting on behalf of the
organization.

The award recognizes the BBC for its exceptional programs in
all genres, including recent shows such as Planet Earth, Strictly Come Dancing and Doctor Who. At the same time the BBC has been a leader in the development of
digital television, radio and online services.

On June 10, Thompson will also take part in a Q&A
session at the close of BWTVF’s sister event, nextMEDIA—The Future of
Digital Content, which will be attended by delegates from both events. The
three-day event is scheduled just prior to the BWTVF from June 8-10.

“I am delighted to be accepting the Outstanding Achievement
Award on behalf of everyone at the BBC,” said Thompson. “It is an honor for our
high quality and successful programming across several genres to be recognized
by the Banff World Television Festival and celebrated before the international
broadcasting community. I am particularly pleased for the recognition of the
BBC’s forward-looking role in innovating for new digital platforms and
audiences across television, radio and online.”
