LONDON/HONG KONG: Endemol has received a commission for Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in Asia, with Associated Broadcasting Company in the Philippines ordering 12 local-language episodes for TV5.

The show will be produced in the local language of Tagalog and will air as monthly specials. This marks the first Asian commission for the hit format, which has been broadcast in 185 countries. The show is currently in its eighth season on ABC in the U.S. as well. Other adaptations include Brazil, where the show has been a hit for TV Record.

Arjen van Mierlo, Endemol’s CEO of Asian operations, commented: “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition has for many years been one of Endemol’s most successful and talked about shows and we’re bringing it to Asia for the first time with great pride. It is a feel-good format on a huge scale and I’ve no doubt audiences here will become immersed in it, just as they have around the world.”

Ray C. Espinosa, TV5’s president and CEO, added: “The launch of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition on TV5 is set to be a great television event in the Philippines. The Filipino viewers are bound to be hooked to the true-to-life human drama that will unfold in the much-awaited local version of the worldwide hit series.”
