AOL Receives Bids for German Operation

NEW YORK, August 30: According to Reuters, Time Warner’s AOL
division has received bids worth more than 600 million euros for its Internet
access business in Germany.

After losing subscribers, AOL has been shifting now to a
model that gives away free services to broadband customers. As part of that
strategy, it has been working to offload its dial-up businesses in Europe, and
is said to be in exclusive negotiations to sell its French operations to Neuf
Cegetel.

Those eyeing the German unit, which has about 2.5 million
subscribers, include Telecom Italia, Versatel and freenet.de.
